“Happy International Women’s Day!” I said to my roommate in Paris.
“What’s that?” he asked.
“It’s a day that recognizes women for advancing in the workplace,” I responded.
“Great. You guys deserve it,” he said.
“But it’s also about voting. If you think about it, women were the last people to receive the right to vote in America,” I said.
We have a lot of special holidays and days of recognition, so I wanted to take the time to see why this holiday, International Women’s Day is important.
Today, March 8, 2016 is the 105th International Women’s Day, a day that recognizes women’s advancements in the workplace, as well as socially and economically.
“The story of women’s struggle for equality belongs to no single feminist nor to any one organization but to the collective efforts of all who care about human rights,”a famous quote from journalist Gloria Steinem.
Major organizations have highlighted the importance of International Women’s Day, which is founded in women’s rights movements in the twentieth century.
