As a blogger for almost four years, I’ve started experimenting with different mediums. I’ve been interviewed on WGN Radio, released a podcast, OkCool Podcast, and most recently, I’ve turned my blog into a talk show. When you are given the opportunity to do things you’ve never done before – it’s scary, but it’s worth it.
This fall, I took a leap and turned my content into a Talk Show. Windy City Cosmo will still remain a blog – but I wanted to also share with you this new opportunity!
How Windy City Cosmo Became a Talk Show:
One of the best blogging tips I’ve given is – get to know people – especially Public Relations professionals if you are in media. I met one of my favorite PR girls, Samantha Frontera, Owner of Exclusive PR, how most media meet PR people – through a press release. We both admired each other’s work – I like that her press release was informative and offered data and trends to back up her pitch, and she liked the way I wrote. After a few pieces about startups and female entrepreneurs, we continue to share opportunities. Samantha introduced me to her friend, Melissa Kennedy who produces shows at the River North production studio, Zacuto.
When I met with Melissa, she liked me and my blog and we started planning ideas. And less then three weeks later I had two guests, cocktails, a hair & make-up artist from Gloss Chicago, a producer and director from Zacuto. And with that, I want to emphasize, it’s so important to be open to new ideas and ready to go when they present themselves.
The first show I did was Launch Parties: If It’s Not a Party Did It Even Happen? I had two lovely guests for my first show! The first are my long time friends and Chicago bloggers, Once Upon a Dollhouse. Then, I also have been working with HBO this year. I’ve attended a few of their launch parties including their Crashing Season 2 and also went to a conference about the future of work and had cocktails with an HBO Sales Director to talk to her about living the life you imagined. So, I invited Courtney Wheeler, the Communications Coordinator for HBO to join me and discuss launch parties.
Below is a sneak peek from the first episode. I talk with Caitlin and Danielle from Once Upon a Dollhouse about how they engage with people at launch parties. Once Upon a Dollhouse has launched a national tour for the Indian liquor, Somrus. They started in Chicago (you know I went to their party) and have since been to other cities like Austin, TX and most recently, Epcot in Florida.
