There’s a point in your life when friends start feeling more like family. I realized this when l moved to Chicago. And especially this year when are went to four Friendsgivings. Four! They basically took up the whole month of November.
Thanksgiving with Goddess and The Grocer
The first Friendsgiving was with Chicago Foodies at Goddess and The Grocer in Bucktown. It was nice to see everyone in early November and enjoy a meal from Goddess and The Grocer. They make all the Thanksgiving favorite dishes for you to preorder for those who don’t really cook (like me). I wore my new, Tripoli hat from Tenth Street Hats and a leather black jacket.
Friendsgiving with Chicago Foodies and Warm Belly Bakery:
For my second Friendsgiving, a lot of Chicago foodies got together again for a special feast at Warm Belly Bakery in the west loop. Warm Belly Bakery is a favorite cookie shop owned by the beloved Joe. They made us their special Sweet Potato Casserole cookie and everyone brought a dish to share – because we’re foodies. The best food of the night was a seven layer dip. That’s right this was a bit of a Mexican food twist. Some of my favorite alcohol brands also sponsored the Friendsgiving including Somrus Indian Liquor.
Friendsgiving with Book Club
The next day I went to my last two Friendsgivings. The first was in the afternoon with my book club. We read The Hate You Give. Everyone brought a side and since our group has vegetarians we had dressing instead of stuffing – which is delicious. I made simple sweet potato casserole. Seriously, you can get the recipe off a marshmallow package and they are so simple and flavorful. For the main course we had turkey and salmon with lemon zest.
Friendsgiving with Friends
Everyone has that friend group that use to hangout all the time and then it becomes rarer like for the holidays and a few birthdays. That would be this Friendsgiving. Every year I see the same people and we’ve been doing this for about 3-4 years. There’s a Chinese twist so we had dumplings mixed with the green bean casserole I made. We watched the Bears game and went for Tiramisu cake instead of pie – it was so good.
I love spending time with family and friends during the holiday. Although four Friendsgivings is a lot, my head was full and so was my stomach with unique people and dishes. I hope you all have a great Friendsgiving and Thanksgiving.
Cheers babes to more cocktails and connections.
