6 Things You Can Do On FaceTime with your BFF or BF

6 Things You Can Do On FaceTime with your BFF or BF

I need FaceTime more than ever. There’s something about it that make you feel like a person – especially if you’ve had no or minimal human interaction in a month during quarantine.

Surprisingly, I’ve had something new to say to people everyday besides Coronavirus updates. But besides talking about my day, one of the things I’ve enjoyed the most about FaceTime is actually using it for activities and to get in quality time – one of my love languages.

I’ve put together a few things I’ve done with my family and friends over FaceTime and video chat. These are also great virtual date ideas because asking, “are you doing ok?” everyday isn’t the best way to get to know someone.

Honestly, House Party is the best app for group video chats less than six. These virtual activities will work over Zoom or Google Hangouts, as well.

Make Banana Bread Together

There is something therapeutic about baking, even if you’re like me and rarely bake. After searching for recipes for hours to find one that matched all of the ingredients I had at home, I gave up and called my sister and she shared with me her classic recipe (the third search result on Google).

We FaceTimed as she told me the directions and I baked it. I definitely had to make some substitutions, but it ended up working. The banana bread was amazing and the time together was even sweeter. Plus, banana bread makes for a great breakfast 🙂

Also trying this as a breakfast challenge where we both make crepes and then send photos. It really adds something to breakfast in bed on the weekends.

Have a Virtual Spa Day

I know everyone is talking about face masks and since for some reason, my skin is getting worse, a fun activity to do is have a virtual spa day and do face masks or hair masks or even your nails.

What’s nice about this is that you can make a homemade face mask if you don’t have one – which is another fun activity. You can also make homemade body scrubs together. I made a coconut brown sugar body scrub and everything was going great until I microwaved the coconut oil and brown sugar in a plastic container. The brown sugar ended up exploding everywhere. This was great and also caught on FaceTime with my sister. You can honestly still make memories during quarantine.

I would suggest taking a face mask from the bottle and just applying it. It’s fun to see everyone in their green tea, pink clay or charcoal face masks. One of my favorite face masks is Kiehl’s Rare Earth Deep Pore Cleansing Mask. I also went to a launch party for Miss Spa in January. It’s a Chicago based beauty company and they have a great face mask called Clearly Jealous. My friends and I usually do face masks when I visit. We all tried it and loved how this left our skin. PS don’t do a peel off mask – those hurt so much.

While you’re relaxing and making your body scrubs or putting on your face masks, a fun thing to do is talk about your favorite beauty products. My sister told me about this Versace perfume Dylan Blue and she even sent me a care package with a mini fragrance and body wash. It’s these little moments that have such a big impact nowadays.

She also told me to try Soap & Glory body wash and lotion to feel extra clean. I should have gotten it when we were talking because it’s now all sold out. I think it’s really cool to share beauty secrets and products with your friends.

Clean out Your Pantries/Closets

I know we’re all being creative here and I love a challenge, but sometimes expiration dates matter. The New York Times even wrote a guide to expiration dates since so many of us are digging through our pantries during quarantine.

After making banana bread together and realizing some ingredients had expired, we took a night to clean out my fridge. PS hand sanitizer also expires. I found one from 2012.

The most random things that expired were ketchup, coconut oil, hard shell tacos and ghee. Oh, even frozen fruit expires. Apparently the last time I went grocery shopping was 2018. You can learn a lot about a person by going through their pantry and we just had fun discovering if something was expired or not.

As we’re cooking at home more, we can also do a lot to reduce food waste and store our food for a longer shelf life.

This also works for cleaning out your closet. You can have a fashion show and try on different looks and they can vote yay or nay. It really does help to have a second opinion. Also, putting on clothes again felt kindof nice.

Grow Your Vocabulary with FreeRice.com (Can Be a Drinking Game)

I think learning can be fun and also funny. When you go to FreeRice.com, you can choose a level from easy to hard. You’re given a word and have to guess the synonym in this multiple choice game. As a bonus, the more answers you get correct, 10 grains of rice are donated via the World Food Programme.

I shared my screen with my sister and we both tried to guess the right answer. It was a great bonding experience. Sometimes, she knew the answer right away and sometimes I did. We also realized that there’s very odd words in the English language that we don’t know how to pronounce. I always knew she was precocious, though.

You can turn this into a drinking game by having the person who answers incorrectly drink. Cheers to being that smart girl, I know you are.

Learn a TikTok Dance on FaceTime

Learning something new can be challenging and intimidating. Somewhere down the line between Toosie Slide and Savage, I knew I wanted to learn one of the dances. So, I found the Savage TikTok dance tutorial and sent it to my sister and we both learned it while FaceTiming. It honestly felt like a virtual zoom class except we were both in PJs.

We laughed. We rewinded. And ultimately, we got in a little extra cardio at the end at the night since it took like 20 tries to nail the moves.

As a bonus, you can have a dance off and see who can do it better. Can you say, dance party?

Netflix/Hulu and Chill

Own do the best things to do on FaceTime with your BFF is talk about movies so why not actually watch a movie? Honestly I didn’t think virtually watching a movie together would work. We tried the Netflix Watch Party app and it didn’t really work since I was watching on my TV. So, my friend and I decided to watch the same movie, “The Tourist” and text. It actually was amazing. We started at the same time and just texted comments back and forth. We would guess what would happen and comment on the chase scene and the fashion. Johnny Depp and Angelina Jolie were great and it made for an entertaining evening.
