Welcome to the Chicago Small Business Spotlight Series. During Quarantine, Small Businesses have been hit pretty hard, as well as other industries. In this series, Windy City Cosmo will be interviewing various Chicago small businesses to learn about their story, what they do, and how they are doing during quarantine.
Relationships are one of the most important parts of life, and especially of PR.
I’d like you to meet someone who I met at a tequila event a few years ago and who I’ve seen at my events in between, and on the news and social media. She makes everything seem seamless, but she is a master at her craft. Today, we’re spotlighting Victoria Kent, Founder of Victoria Kent PR.
What’s your story? Why do you love what you do?
I started Victoria Kent PR in 2015, and I specialize in hospitality, event, non-profit, and lifestyle public relations and communications in Chicago. I love working with clients to help tell their stories through traditional media and social media channels.
How has quarantine affected your business?
I shifted my business to mostly events in the past year or so. I had four events in April alone that have been canceled or rescheduled to later this year. There’s a lot of uncertainty on what 2020 holds, and it’s scary. Luckily, I have a few clients that aren’t strictly event/restaurant based, so I do have some income coming in. I’m very thankful to have work still right now.
What changes have you made to stay in business?
I’m focusing on the clients that I do have and supporting them with help beyond my usual scope. I’ve also reached out to past restaurant clients offering to help them spread the word on their delivery, to-go options – free of charge. We’re all in this together and any assistance I can provide during these times, I want to do it.
How can people support you during the pandemic?
Virtual coffee dates and brainstorming sessions are always welcome. I’m also offering virtual PR & communications consulting services for a wide range of budgets.
